    Summary This temporary position is located in the Gettysburg National Military Park's Maintenance Division. This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for building and utility maintenance work. The position provides daily direction to at least 3 employees. The highest level of work led is at the WG-7 level. Responsibilities **INITIAL CUT OFF IS Tuesday, 16 December 2025**This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. Major Duties Incumbent Leads crew of four (4) Maintenance Workers in the conservation and preservation work of stone and metal monuments, markers and plaques commemorating the Battle of Gettysburg. Demonstrates proper work methods in operation of mowing and roadside trimming, raking sweeping, fence construction, trail maintenance, and landscaping using walking or riding power equipment. Receives, generates, and executes work orders, estimates, project statements, and cyclic maintenance activities related to monument preservation and repair Cleans stone and bronze monuments, plaques, etc by power washing and or walnut shell blasting. Operates hydraulic man-lift, engine driven pressure washing equipment, and motor vehicles up to 1 ton, and pulls trailers not to exceed 3000 pounds Uses hand tools to assist journeymen in mortar removal and re-pointing Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Lead Or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments SCREEN OUT: Possesses the ability to lead or supervise, performing the full range of duties of a Maintenance Worker Leader, WL-4749-07 AND possesses knowledge and experience to demonstrate the ability to independently lead a crew to completion of a variety of landscape preservation tasks that include: experience demonstrating my ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate materials and manpower, prepare work orders and reports, train others on maintenance work in at least two of the follow trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, cement finishing or masonry), explain work manuals and procedures, and motivate others to work efficiently and productively. TEMP NTE 1040 Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS). If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility. The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM. Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations. Physical Demands Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach requiring incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions The work is done inside and outside where dirt, spray, fumes is present. Also required to work in extreme weather conditions and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequently exposed to the potential risk of broken bones, shock, burns, cuts and bruises.
