    Position Description:

    Performs academic advising, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    45% - Student Advising and Degree Planning: Meet with students and their families to assist in developing

    individualized degree plans. Provide academic advising to ensure students understand university requirements

     

    and make appropriate course selections. Conduct regular meetings with students to monitor progress toward

     

    degree completion. Maintain accurate and up-to-date advising records using TTU systems and provide periodic

     

    reports and analysis as needed. Proactively connect students to appropriate campus and community resources to support their academic success and personal development and overall well being.

     

    30% - Orientation and Recruitment: Coordinate and facilitate new student orientation sessions. Respond to inquiries from students and families, providing relevant information and resources. Represent the department at

     

    recruitment and retention events to promote academic programs and support services.

     

    10% - Career Guidance: Advise students and their families on potential career paths related to their academic goals.

     

    Provide guidance on the steps and resources necessary to successfully pursue those careers. Help students explore and connect with career development resources on campus.

     

    10% - Administrative Support: Assist students with administrative tasks such as course add/drop processes, resolving registration holds, assigning time tickets, and managing permits/overrides with proper authorization. Provide support with evaluating transfer credit equivalencies.

     

    5% - Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and administrative functions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field. Previous experience in academic advising, student services, or higher education administration. Demonstrated commitment to student development and success through proactive engagement and support strategies. Experience using student information systems such as Banner, DegreeWorks, or similar platforms.

    About the Department and/or College:

    Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.

     

    Texas Tech University’s Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/psy/)has doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA accredited), Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors Psychology (HFES accredited), and Social Psychology. We currently have 30 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 5 full-time teaching-track faculty members, 125+ graduate students, 1,500+ undergraduate majors, our own building with office, laboratory, and classroom space, and a newly renovated Psychology Clinic. Faculty have an excellent track record of applying for and obtaining external research funding. Our research programs encompass departmental, campus, community, and national/international collaborations. We have effective working relationships with faculty across campus, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, large area hospitals, numerous clinics and psychological-service agencies, and other multidisciplinary groups in the region.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines. Experience in advising or mentoring students in a higher education setting. Familiarity with institutional policies and procedures related to academic advising, registration, and student retention.

    Hourly Pay Range:

    $16.39 - $21.30 - $26.25
