    Job Description

    The UW Libraries (http://lib.uw.edu/about/)** **Interlibrary Loan & Scanning Services department** **has an outstanding opportunity for a Lending & Document Delivery Technician.

     

    Under the general supervision of the Lending & Document Delivery Supervisor, maintains the daily operations of Lending & Document Delivery. This position performs library technical tasks related primarily to lending and document delivery of library materials requested by faculty, staff, students, individuals, and institutions/libraries. Regular schedule is Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Performs standard ILL & DDS physical operation for UW affiliated, unaffiliated users and businesses:

    + Paging and pulling material

    + Shipping and returns

    + Scanning of book chapters and journals

    Additional ILL & DDS functions:

    + Use library catalog and other tools to search incoming loan and article requests. Corrects incomplete and/or incorrect citations.

    + Processes lending requests from other libraries world-wide.

    + Guide requests through the workflow from receipt to fulfillment or cancellation within designated timeframes.

    + Track and update request statuses in ILL software. Identify and act upon higher priority requests.

    + Identify, investigate and resolve delayed requests.

    + Updates ILL requests as needed to ensure effective workflow.

    + Maintains familiarity with individual branch library locations, collections, and policies regarding accessing their material for interlibrary loan/document delivery.

    + Follows licensing and copyright restrictions for materials

    + Processes and bills physical loans.

    + Performs other circulation duties.

    + Maintains a climate of high quality, responsive, and empathetic public service, while working within State, University, and Library guidelines.

    General

    + Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication Responsibilities. Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively. Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in Libraries and unit meetings, activities and events.

    + Works together with colleagues in a team environment.

    + Observes trends and reports to team members.

    + Recommends changes and improvements to team members regarding equipment, work processes, policies, and procedures.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    + High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable library technical experience, including one year beyond the entry level.

     

    _Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration._

    Additional Requirements

    + Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

    + Ability to perform work accurately, quickly, with attention to detail, in an environment of high volume and frequent interruptions.

    + Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone, and in written correspondence.

    + Ability to work cooperatively with other staff as well as independently with direction.

    + Demonstrated experience and ability to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community.

    Desired Qualifications

    + Demonstrated experience with spreadsheet and word processing software.

    + Experience in interlibrary loan and an integrated library system.

    + Experience with scanning software.

    + Ability to lift and carry 25-40 pound crates and push heavy book trucks.

    + Familiarity with vocabulary and general structure of one or more foreign languages.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $44,256.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $53,400.00 annual
