    Brief Description

    The Vice President of Finance is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for the strategic direction, management, and oversight of all financial operations. This role ensures the organization’s fiscal integrity, promotes sustainable financial growth, and supports the achievement of long-term strategic objectives. The VP of Finance will oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, revenue, financial reporting, risk management, investments, and compliance functions.

     

    This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO)

    Specific Duties

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership

     

    + Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.

    + Provide financial insight and recommendations to the COO and senior leadership team.

    + Implement and monitor systems, procedures, and controls to effectively analyze the CAP financial position and lead the effort to prepare short-term and long-term strategies and financial forecasts that include cash flows, capital acquisitions and investments.

     

    Financial Management

     

    + Direct all aspects of accounting, budgeting, revenue management, and forecasting processes.

    + Oversee development of the CAP’s annual budget for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board.

    + Process must include high levels of involvement and “buy-in” throughout the organization, supported with the appropriate information.

    + Ensure that the College’s assets (fiscal, material and human capital) are appropriately protected through risk management and insurance programs.

    + Oversee preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, analyses, and reports.

    + Monitor key performance indicators and financial metrics to assess organizational health and performance.

    + Manage treasury functions, cash flow, investments, and debt portfolio.

     

    Risk, Compliance, and Audit

     

    + Ensure that the College has appropriate investment guidelines and strategies, that its resources are managed in accordance with stated objectives, and that they are recorded in compliance with CAP policy and general acceptable accounting principles (e.g. GAAP, IRS, state nonprofit requirements if applicable).

    + Oversee internal controls, risk management, and audit processes to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.

    + Coordinate with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.

     

    Operational and Team Leadership

     

    + Lead, mentor, and develop finance staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

    + Collaborate across departments to ensure financial alignment with organizational priorities.

    + Evaluate and implement systems and technologies to improve financial efficiency and reporting accuracy.

    + Actively coach, develop and manage a team capable of carrying out Finance initiatives and fostering an inclusive and effective work culture.

     

    Finance Committee and Stakeholder Relations

     

    + Present financial reports and strategic recommendations to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Investment, and Audit committees.

    + Serve as a financial advisor to executive leadership and contribute to major business decisions.

    + Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.

     

    Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred

    Education/Experience

    Qualifications

    + Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a demonstrated track record of driving cost reductions and operational excellence.

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required (MBA).

    + CPA required.

    + 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance, including at least 5 years in a senior executive role.

    + Proven experience managing complex budgets, investments, and strategic financial planning.

    + Nonprofit or healthcare experience (if relevant) strongly preferred.

    + Excellent leadership, communication, and change management abilities.

    + Proficiency in ERP systems/CRM platform, and supply chain analytics tools.

    Additional Criteria

    This position is based out of the Northfield, IL office. Candidates must reside within 75 miles of the Northfield headquarters.

     

    Salary Range: $215,000 - $260,000
