    The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks applicants for the Claire W. and Richard P. Morse Fellowship for Advanced Training in Conservation of Works of Art on Paper. This two-year appointment begins in fall 2026 and may be extended for a third year.

    Position Overview:

    Under the general direction of the Head of Paper Conservation:

    • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Deknatel Paper Conservation Lab and participate in a wide range of conservation activities generated by an active museum environment.

    Essential Functions:

    • Undertake research, in-depth examination, and treatment of artworks.

    • Participate in documentation of artwork, preventive conservation, and storage and exhibition planning.

    • Work in collaboration with conservators, conservation scientists, collections care specialists, curators, and other staff on projects as assigned.

    Secondary Functions:

    • Conservation and Scientific Research at the MFA is a public-facing department that embraces opportunities to engage with visitors, and the Fellow is encouraged to contribute to community engagement activities.

    • Included in the fellowship is the opportunity to carry out a publishable research project.

    Requirements and Characteristics:

    • Graduate degree in conservation from a recognized program, and a minimum of one year of practical experience beyond graduation

    • Excellent written, photo documentation, and communication skills

    • Ability to work collaboratively and excel as part of a team and in a rapidly-paced and changeable environment

    Salary Range:

    Full-Time Salary, 35 hours per week

     

    Salary: $53,615

     

    This position is affiliated with the United Auto Workers Union.
