    Job Title: Phlebotomist I - MaconJob Description

     

    The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. This role involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, and updating patient information.

    Responsibilities

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

    Essential Skills

    + 1-2 years of recent phlebotomy experience.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + Experience with patients from pediatric to geriatric age groups.

    + Ability to handle 25+ patient draws per day.

    + Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draw, and venipuncture.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Strong customer service experience.

    + Ability to move and stand for extended periods.

    + Comfortable standing most of the day.

    + Good attention to detail and team player.

    Work Environment

    The position is located at IOP - Cancer Central Georgia Cancer Care in Macon, GA. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, on a contract-to-hire basis. The role involves handling 100-120 patients per day, primarily cancer patients, with assistance from two phlebotomists, a site coordinator, and occasionally nurses. The environment requires being on your feet most of the day, assisting with tasks such as drawing blood, intake, processing samples, and maintaining the facility. Cellphone usage is not allowed in the facility.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Macon, GA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
