    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Senior Assistant Director serves under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Director for Compliance and Operations. The Senior Assistant Director is responsible for managing 3 direct reports that administer all federal, private, and institutional loan programs. This position monitors compliance for all loan programs, oversees the completion of monthly federal and private loan reconciliations, ensures the delivery of loans is timely, conducts internal audits and reviews, and provides ongoing staff development and training related to federal, state, and institutional regulations/policies. The Senior Assistant Director will provide excellent quality customer service, consistency of information, and support outreach efforts to all university stakeholders and the community at large.

     

    + Provide leadership, supervision, and performance management for three direct reports responsible for administering federal, private, and institutional loan programs.

    + Oversee and ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies governing student loan programs.

    + Monitor and coordinate the completion of monthly reconciliations for federal and private loan programs; identify and resolve discrepancies to maintain accuracy and compliance.

    + Ensure timely origination, disbursement, and delivery of all loan funds in accordance with regulatory requirements.

    + Conduct periodic internal audits and quality reviews to assess compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency within loan processing.

    + Develop, implement, and deliver ongoing training and professional development opportunities for staff to maintain current knowledge of policies, regulations, and best practices.

    + Serve as a primary resource for loan-related questions, providing clear and consistent communication to students, families, university stakeholders, and external partners.

    + Collaborate with compliance, operations, and financial services units to ensure seamless integration of loan processes with overall financial aid operations.

    + Support outreach and educational efforts to promote understanding of loan policies, repayment options, and financial literacy across the university community.

    + Maintain audit-ready documentation and contribute to preparation for state, federal, and institutional audits or program reviews.

    + Assist with strategic planning, policy development, and implementation of process improvements to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.

    Minimum Experience / Education:

    Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressively responsible work experience in financial aid, including the use of automated financial aid systems.

     

    + Working knowledge of federal and state regulations governing financial aid.

    + Strong administrative background, including a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other relevant computer-based programs, including excellent written, interpersonal communication and organization.

    Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

    Master’s degree preferred. Four plus years of experience.

     

    + Strong knowledge of automated systems (mainframe and PC), with highly preferred experience in Ellucian Banner and ELM Resources.

    + Thorough understanding of federal student loan regulations, cash management policies, and loan reconciliation processes, including monthly and year-end reconciliation with institutional records, external servicers, and the Department of Education.

    + Proven ability to apply sound judgment and discretion when interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations, along with customer service.

    + Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, campus partners, outside agencies, and lenders while providing exceptional customer service.

    + Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-changing environment, including a willingness to work evenings and occasional weekends.
