    About the DCS Background Check Unit:

    The Background Check Unit is responsible for utilizing uniform standards and procedures to complete and evaluate DCS background checks. We ensure consistent and timely evaluation of FBI and State fingerprint-based criminal history checks, accurate determination of child abuse and neglect history, and communication of findings to appropriate parties.

    Role Overview:

    The Background Check Coordinator ensures that DCS background checks are consistent across the state and are completed and evaluated according to state law, administrative rules, and DCS policies. You will advise staff about policies and procedures for fingerprint checks, criminal history checks, child abuse and neglect checks, local criminal court record checks, and national sex offender registry checks. You may also collect and submit criminal or Child Protective Services waivers when appropriate.

    Salary:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

    A Day in the Life:

    Responsibilities include:

    + Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.

    + Answer basic customer questions about program policies and procedures.

    + Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.

    + Collect information to help in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.

    + Maintain, organize, and monitor program assets.

    + Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

    + General knowledge of the program area.

    + Working knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy and professional standards and practices.

    + Ability to research and compile specific topics related to program area.

    + Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

    + Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.

    + Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.

    + Specialized knowledge of accounting principles.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + No degree is required to fill this position.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
