    Robert Half Finance & Accounting (Madison, WI)


    Description

    Are you an organized and detail-oriented professional with a passion for accounting? We are seeking a dedicated Accountant to join an organization in Madison, WI. In this role, you will support a variety of accounting, payroll, and administrative functions while working closely with senior leadership on process improvements and compliance.

    Accounting Duties:

    + Reconcile monthly bank statements and balance sheet accounts

    + Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries (e.g., bank transactions, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals)

    + Track and manage fixed assets

    + Prepare monthly accounts receivable invoicing and related reports

    + Enter and code donation deposits across multiple systems

    + Prepare and upload weekly Positive Pay bank files, resolve any exceptions

    + Record ACH payments/receipts and apply cash to AR invoices

    + Prepare weekly bank deposits

    + Collaborate with CFO on month-end close

    + Provide backup for Accounts Payable (including grant payments, phones, and mail distribution)

    + Assist with year-end tax filings and financial audits

    HR/Payroll Duties:

    + Accurately process bi-weekly payroll, including special payroll cycles

    + Assist with new employee onboarding

    + Support employees with timecard updates

    + Reconcile benefit invoices to payroll reports

    + Distribute FMLA and short-term disability paperwork as needed

    + Update life insurance vendor for employee changes

    + Notify employees of retirement plan eligibility

    + Assist with preparation of annual multi-site reports

    + Provide additional administrative support as needed

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications:

    + Associate degree in accounting, or equivalent experience

    + 1-3 years of relevant accounting/payroll experience

    + Non-profit experience is a plus

    + Familiarity with government grants is a plus

    + Ability to maintain high confidentiality

    + Strong multitasking abilities and attention to detail

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills

    + Capable of budget analysis, preparing financial statements, concise reporting

    + Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    + Experience with automated accounting and payroll systems
