Job Description
Reporting to the Managing Director, of Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures, the Director of Business Operations provides the highest quality support for the mission and responsibilities of Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures. The Director is an accomplished, results-driven business development and strategic planning professional with deep expertise in assessing, formulating, and implementing programs and projects in international and domestic settings. The Director works collaboratively with the members of the Technology Ventures leadership team and multidisciplinary partners internally and externally to develop and execute projects and programs for the office and the institution at large and has the experience and expertise to develop meaningful relationships with academia, industry, venture groups, and governmental agencies.
•Leads the Technology Ventures team in providing operational management and oversight of the Cedars-Sinai Accelerator+ in all aspects of its business, including business operations, business development and strategic planning
•Works with Accelerator+ Advisory Board and management team to define the programmatic vision and strategy of Accelerator to facilitate and support internal and external programs and commercial development
•Works with Accelerator + management team to improve operational efficiencies and financial performance, including budgeting and review, employee training and learning, technical staff retention and development of organizational infrastructure
•Develops and manages strategic relationships with academic research institutions in order foster and maintain a robust business development pipeline
•Develops new revenue models and strategies for Accelerator
•Leads in preparation and negotiations of all Accelerator+ contractual and legal matters with external clients and vendors, as well as management of external advisors, to facilitate institutional priorities
•Works with Accelerator+ management team and external advisors and service providers to operationalize and maintain all aspects of business development.
•Identifies new technologies and investment opportunities, as well as potential collaboration partners, to advance technology innovation in the areas of Accelerator
•Understands and implements organizational priorities and organizational infrastructure to support the realization of Accelerator +’s goals in the global landscape
•Ensures program commitments are being fulfilled, including resolving issues related to scope, budget, and internal and external stakeholder satisfaction
•Develops relationships with industry, entrepreneurs, potential licensees and partners, investors, and business, government, and community leaders and supports the establishment of alliances and opportunities that are consistent with Cedars-Sinai’s Technology Ventures mission and priorities
•Guides the selection of projects to maintain a healthy portfolio and balance among competing expectations
•Works with external and internal organizations, and individuals, to evaluate, negotiate, develop, and maintain partnerships and strategic relationships with government agencies, academic institutions, and/or private industries
Qualifications
**EDUCATION** :
Bachelor's degree (minimum) - biological/life sciences or related field required
Master's Degree (preferred) - advanced degree in relevant field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Eight years (minimum) of technology startups, entrepreneurship, strategic planning, business development and/or venture capital experience (or relevant field) at a research university, academic medical center or life sciences company required, with a minimum of five years of management experience:
•Experience managing and overseeing start-up companies and similar operations required
•Experience working with international teams and stakeholders required
•Experience developing and executing strategic and tactical plans to design original and creative programs and assess the success of the programs to develop solutions and devise program improvements
•Experience using interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with people from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds both domestically and internationally
