    The Institute for Fundamental Science (IFS) at the University of Oregon is the home for research whose primary aim is to understand, explore, and extend the fundamental laws of nature, with an emphasis on the consequences for observable phenomena. The IFS brings together the UO’s investigations in experimental and theoretical high energy particle physics, astrophysics and astronomy, and is complemented by a variety of inquiries into other foundational topics.

    Position Summary

    The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will conduct research as part of the Theoretical Particle Physics group (Spencer Chang, Tim Cohen, Graham Kribs, Dave Soper and Tien-Tien Yu). Our interests are broad, including the Standard Model (quantum chromodynamics, jet substructure), physics beyond the Standard Model (Higgs physics, electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetry), and astrophysics/cosmology (dark matter, baryogenesis) and machine learning applications in these topics. The University of Oregon also has an experimental high energy physics group involved in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and an observational astrophysics group involved in the LIGO experiment.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A PhD in theoretical particle physics prior to the start of the position.

    • Demonstrated capability to do independent research in particle theory.
