Summary This position is with the National Mall and Memorial Parks located in Washington, D.C.. Open to the first 60 applicants or until 12/10/2025 whichever comes first. Responsibilities The major duties of the Electrician position include, but are not limited to, the following: Appropriately apply the National Electric code (NEC) to projects in order to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair. Assists in the park's annual preventive maintenance schedule and annual operating programs for the electric shop. Provide technical advice, guidance, and support in the oversight of existing and proposed park facility buildings and utilities. Must be able to plan and lay out electrical systems from drawing and must interface new work with existing systems. Responsible for identifying and correcting job safety and health hazards. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. *Additional Requirements located under Qualifications* Qualifications Requirements Continued... As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. A copy of your State or District of Columbia Journeyman Electrician's License will need to be provided at the time of your application. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The physical effort for electricians includes making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard to reach places. The work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work often requires lifting and carrying tools and equipment in excess of 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside, including temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work maybe performed at heights of more than 30 feet. The incumbent may be exposed to the possibility of injury from falls, electrical shock, bums, and the use of power tools. The work sometimes requires backcountry hikes, travel on unimproved roads, or travel by helicopter. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
