The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is seeking an **_Athletic Trainer_** at Mack Trucks/Volve in Macungie, PA. The JHU Athletic Trainer (AT) reports directly to the on-site JHU mid-level provider(s) at the Mack Truck/Volvo facility in Macungie, PA. The Athletic Trainer will also work closely with the Regional Coordinator for the JHU-Mack trucks/Volvo partnership, supervising MD/DO, the Executive Director and Assistant Director for the JHU Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (DOEM). Athletic Trainers will assist in the prevention and treatment of work-related injuries, ergonomics coaching, job site evaluations, health promotion, general wellness and fitness programs promotion, case management, and counseling the patient population. ATs will also assist with return-to-work programs.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
+ Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports in a timely manner. Documentation may include patient files, monthly reports, budgets, expense reports, and utilization statistics.
+ Communicate regularly with onsite JHU midlevel provider(s) and Mack Trucks/Volvo safety personnel regarding patient rehabilitation and employee injury prevention activities.
+ Attend Mack Trucks/Volvo departmental & safety meetings. ATs should serve on various safety committees as requested.
+ Perform comprehensive ergonomic job analysis, including task analysis, risk factor identification and quantification, posture, and body mechanics analysis.
+ Administer Drug and Alcohol testing for federally and non-federally regulated positions at Mack Trucks/Volvo as directed
_Injury Prevention_
+ Create an environment of trust and caring which allows workers to take responsibility to reduce or eliminate actions or behaviors under their control that contribute to injury and illness.
+ Routine (weekly) inspections of the location to identify areas of potential concern for injury/illness
+ Plan and implement comprehensive injury and illness prevention programs.
+ Design, implement, oversee and track stretching and ergonomic programs for Mack Truck/Volvo employees.
+ Perform individual work site ergonomic evaluations as requested and within the scope of practice/education.
+ Identify and implement ergonomic interventions as needed.
+ Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces as appropriate
+ Advise Mack Trucks/Volvo employees on proper body mechanics and use of equipment
_Case Management, Evaluation and Treatment_
+ Under the guidance of the overseeing MD and/or mid-level provider(s):
+ Provide musculoskeletal injury assessments covering such areas as patient history, observation, palpation, range of motion examination, manual muscle strength, and reflex testing.
+ Provide recommendations for care plans, which may include imaging, specialist referral, or physical therapy
+ Provide rehabilitation for occupational injuries using approved modalities, manual therapy, and physical therapy techniques
+ Assess and report progress of recovering employees to on-site JHU midlevel provider(s) and Mack Trucks/Volvo leadership members
+ Develop written rehabilitation policies and procedures to be reviewed by Mack Truck/Volvo and JHU leadership
+ Evaluate Mack Trucks/Volvo employees’ readiness to return to work and provide recommendations to mid-level provider(s) as appropriate.
_General Wellness and Health Promotion_
+ Participate in the design and implementation of health promotion and wellness activities such as annual/monthly health fairs and screening events. Health promotion should also include monthly educational topics on nutrition, hydration, fitness, and sleep hygiene, proper ergonomics, stretching and pre-shift warm-ups.
_AT Special Skills/Knowledge_
+ Knowledge of OSHA first aid and recordable treatments
+ Manual therapy techniques such as IASTM, Cupping, ART, Trigger Point Release, etc.
+ Knowledge of ergonomics and injury prevention strategies
+ Analytical ability is necessary to evaluate and determine the health status of patients with orthopedic injuries
+ Interpersonal skills necessary to interview, teach, counsel patients, and interact with clients/employers
+ A customer-focused attitude

+ Specialty equipment including but not limited to,
+ Physical therapy equipment
+ AED
+ Game Ready or similar device
+ Dynamap
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a Health-related area from an accredited college.
+ Licensed/Registered by the applicable State Agency.
+ Nationally Board-certified athletic trainer.
+ Two years of experience in an occupational setting.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $41,300 - $72,300 Annually ($64,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
