GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Space Opto-Mechanical Technician in our EMS Division in San Diego, California.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ The Space Technician has a broad knowledge base spanning from mechanical and optical assembly to advanced electronics and test instrumentation.
+ Functioning with minimal supervision and working independently, this position fabricates, modifies, assembles, installs, operates, repairs, and maintains test equipment.
+ Assists with complex tests and development activities. Records, evaluates, and reports data to test team.
+ Summarizes test data via written tabulation, charts, and graphs, and prepares written reports.
+ Under moderate supervision, assists Mechanical, Manufacturing and Test Engineers in the execution of assembly and integration, and test procedures for space hardware and other related assemblies.
+ Work with Test and Design engineers to help troubleshoot failures.
+ Builds and maintains mechanical and electrical ground support equipment necessary for the operation and testing of space hardware, including but not limited to lifting, holding, and rotation fixtures, test bench setups, thermal vacuum chamber operations, vibration tables, fluid mechanics, and data acquisition.
+ Maintains equipment and systems, implementing modifications and engineering changes as necessary. Identifies operational problems and reports deficiencies.
+ Working knowledge and understanding of ISO 7/8 requirements and working standards.
+ Understands all applicable processes and procedures and provides continual input to improve and streamline those processes. Maintains a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures, workmanship standards, and best practices.
+ Travel up to 25% as needed to support manufacturing and testing needs.
+ Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
+ Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with five or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
+ Must be able to work with conventional hand tools and laboratory equipment. Must be able to perform a variety of routine tasks in a safe manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures.
+ The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience and strong mechanical and optical background in the manufacturing, testing, and operation of space systems hardware.
+ Experience in space, aviation, military, or other high-reliability operating environments is highly desirable.
+ Understands space and flight hardware handling including ESD and clean room requirements.
+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and work with general supervision, either in a team or independently.
+ Good interpersonal, verbal communication, and written communication skills are required to accurately identify, assess, and document data and completed operations; Knowledge of computer applications pertinent to the field is a plus.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
+ Existing security clearance preferred
