Responsibilities and practice
The Des Moines, Iowa office of Dentons Davis Brown is seeking an experienced attorney with excellent academic credentials to join our growing Energy practice. The person hired for this position will:
+ Advise clients on energy regulatory and compliance issues, including matters before local, state, and federal regulatory bodies (e.g., local boards, the state public utility commission, and/or FERC)
+ Draft applications seeking siting and construction permits for energy generating and/or transmission facilities and associated review of consultant reports and other supporting materials
+ Draft proposed agreements with local governments, including agreements regarding road use, decommissioning, and drain tile repair
+ Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and/or other filings to be submitted in administrative and judicial proceedings
+ Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas (corporate, environmental, real estate, and litigation) to deliver comprehensive client service
+ Assist with drafting or negotiating contracts related to the transfer of generation assets, including development-transfer, build-transfer, and/or power-purchase agreements
+ Participate in business development efforts, including industry conferences, client presentations, and thought leadership opportunities
Position requirements
Personal skills/attributes
+ J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Iowa
+ 2–7 years of experience practicing energy regulatory law or litigation in a law firm, government agency, or in-house setting
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
+ Collaborative approach and a desire to grow within a dynamic practice group
Technical skills
+ Strong understanding of regulatory law, utility operations, or renewable energy project development
+ Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Other requirements
+ Should be licensed to practice law in the State of Iowa and be in good standing
