    Your role and responsibilities

    IBM Research is seeking a research scientist to advance novel quantum algorithms and apply them to the fields of materials science and condensed matter physics. Your job will be to progress the field of quantum computing by developing new methods and insights that shape and execute on the IBM quantum roadmap. Key areas of research include quantum simulation and applications of quantum-centric supercomputing for quantum matter and materials.

     

    * Improve upon and develop novel algorithms that combine quantum and classical resources.

    * Demonstrate and benchmark quantum methods on real world applications in condensed matter and materials science.

    * Expand the quantum ecosystem and connect to materials scientists through quantum community working groups.

    * Work with clients and partners to validate solutions and accelerate discovery.

    Required technical and professional expertise

    * Experience in academic graduate program related to applicable area of quantum computing, such as condensed matter physics, information theory, or materials science.

    * Experience running demonstrations on real quantum hardware.

    * Familiarity with multi-scale computational approaches in materials science.

    * Familiarity with computational materials discovery/optimization, e.g. computational screening methods.

     

    Preferred technical and professional experience

     

    Hiring manager and Recruiter should collaborate to create the relevant verbiage.

     

    * Strong publication record in high-impact journals or top conference proceedings.

    * Programming experience in core & scientific language (e.g. python, numpy, scipy, matplotlib) and Qiskit

    * Familiarity with Git and/or Github

    * Successful record of collaborative work

    * Experience leading leading research projects in industry or academically

    * Experience writing proposals and participating on grants
