Human Resources Technician- Hormel Foods, Algona Iowa
This position reports to the HR manager at the Algona Plant.
This position will primarily work 1st shift (0630-15:00) but will be required to adjust their schedule to support 2nd and 3rd shift operations as needed. Overtime may be required.
This position will assist all activities associated with Human Resources, plant safety and health programs, medical services, safety and security of the Algona plant. The incumbent assumes the responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager when absent.

The Human Resource Technician will perform more complex administrative and technical responsibilities for the overall Human Resource Department, **which may include but are not limited to** :
+ Independently recruit, screen and recommend candidates to hire in accordance with the company’s hiring requirements
+ Administer the process of adding, eliminating and reclassifying bargaining unit jobs in accordance with the working agreement
+ Interview Scheduling
+ Policy guidance
+ Performance appraisal assistance
+ Hiring needs coordination
+ Orientation coordination
+ Annual safety training coordination
+ Wellness event coordination
+ Qualitative data preparation
+ Employment eligibility monitoring
+ Safety audit scheduling
+ Posting open jobs
+ Assist with job fairs and other community outreach programs
+ Works closely with salaried and hourly employees to design, develop, implement, and maintain all safety and health programs which meet established company objectives and OSHA compliance requirements.
+ Assists in managing various programs such as workers’ compensation, security, safety recognition, and training. This position will ensure that all employees receive monthly safety training. This position will lead the Safety Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
+ Proven leadership, persuasive, initiative, analytical, communication, and strong organizational skills are necessary for success in this position
+ Bilingual language skills (English/Spanish)
+ Demonstrated pattern of highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
+ Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability
+ Possess unquestionable ability to maintain confidentiality
+ Ability to initiate appropriate action independently as well as exercise maturity in judgement
+ Software proficiency in the Windows environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
Preferred
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar field of study
+ Relevant previous Human Resources/Operations experience
+ Experience with database systems
+ Advanced Excel skills including frequent and proficient use of IF statements, and other complex formulas
