Position Summary:

The Special Education Instructional Aide supports students with disabilities in achieving their academic, social, and behavioral goals. This role works under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to provide individualized assistance, implement accommodations, and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities: Student Support: Assist students with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and math activities. Support students in developing social and behavioral skills. Provide one-on-one or small group instruction as directed by the teacher. Classroom Assistance: Help implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations. Prepare instructional materials and adapt resources for student needs. Monitor and document student progress and behavior. Behavioral & Physical Support: Assist with behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement. Physical assistance when necessary (e.g., mobility, toileting, feeding) in accordance with training and school policy. Collaboration: Communicate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other staff. Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions.

Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).

+ Experience working with children, especially those with special needs.

+ Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with a team.

+ Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.

+ Basic knowledge of instructional strategies and behavior management.

Preferred Skills:

+ Familiarity with special education practices and IEP implementation.

+ Ability to use assistive technology and adaptive tools.

+ CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
