* MTHS invites applications for the position of Museum Program Manager. The Museum Program preserves and manages the Society’s extensive collection of art and artifacts, including historical, ethnographic, and archaeological items. Program staff catalog objects, implement preventive preservation practices, and coordinate conservation efforts. The program develops exhibitions, manages a statewide loan program for other museums, and provides training for peer institutions. It also oversees the care of artworks in the State Capitol and Capitol Complex, administers the Original Governor’s Mansion, and offers research support related to the collections.The Museum Program consists of a team of 11.75FTE curators, registrars, exhibit design and fabrication staff, and administrative staff. The Museum Program Manager is part of the MTHS Leadership team and assists the MTHS Director in reviewing, promoting, and planning for MTHS. Learn more:https://mths.mt.gov/Museum/ *Representative Duties:** * * Direct and manage operational activities for the program, including hiring staff, allocating resources, overseeing program performance, and managing projects. * Determine program goals within broad outlines provided by leadership and make detailed plans to accomplish these goals. * Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the program and its activities. * Conduct research in field of expertise and prepare project proposals for the program. * Represent the program at the direction of leadership at meetings and public forums, contract negotiations, to external constituencies, and with other agencies. * Approve and review expenditures within authorized limits and prepare financial reports. * Coordinate and integrate subprograms, operations, and activities for the program. * May seek and solicit outside funding sources for a program and its projects, such as grants, donations, or other funding sources. *Education: * * Master’s degree in museum studies, public history, history, or a related field. *Experience: * * Five years of dedicated job-related experience, including supervisory experience * Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted *Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements:** * * May need to work at a computer daily for 8 or more hours at a time. * Fluctuation in workload may require more than a 40-hour work week. * Work during legislative sessions may be stressful. * Frequent interaction with entities and individuals such as the public, other state agencies, tribal and local governments, federal government, legislators, contracting firms. Travel may be required. *Hours of Operation:* The Montana Heritage Center operates seven days a week: Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Montana Heritage Center is open holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
