Our client, a leading organization in the retail industry, is seeking a Retail AI Subject Matter Expert to join their team. As a Retail AI Subject Matter Expert, you will be part of the AI Training and Model Development Department supporting cross-functional teams including data scientists, AI engineers, and product teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, innovative thinking, and excellent communication abilities, which will align successfully in the organization.
**Job Title:** Retail AI Subject Matter Expert
**Location:** Tempe, Arizona
**Pay Range:** _Starting $75plus (rate is negotiable based on experience level)_
What's the Job?
+ Serve as the retail domain expert during the training and fine-tuning of AI models, ensuring contextual accuracy and industry relevance.
+ Develop knowledge bases, taxonomies, and ontologies that reflect retail industry standards and best practices.
+ Annotate, label, and validate datasets with domain-specific knowledge such as product categories, inventory terms, pricing, and promotions.
+ Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to design training data strategies, evaluation metrics, and prompt engineering techniques tailored to retail applications.
+ Provide expert feedback on model outputs, identifying errors, ambiguities, and opportunities to improve model reasoning and performance.
What's Needed?
Experience working in a** **Fortune 50 company** **.
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a **Top Tier University** in Business, Retail Management, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, or related field.
+ **5–10 years of experience** in the retail sector (merchandising, operations, category management, supply chain, or e-commerce).
+ Proven ability to translate business processes into structured data requirements.
+ Strong analytical and communication skills; able to articulate complex retail concepts to technical and non-technical teams.
+ Familiarity with retail data systems (ERP, POS, CRM, inventory management software) is a plus.
+ Experience with AI/ML concepts (data annotation, prompt design, model evaluation) preferred—but **deep retail expertise is essential** .
