    POSITION OVERVIEW

    PURPOSE OF DIVISION

    The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance business unit Is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The purpose of the Maintenance Mechanic I - Sm. Construction Maintenance, is to ensure that the facilities, equipment, structures and utilities are constructed, installed, and maintained in a manner commensurate with maximizing value to our customers, Functions are performed In a manner which applies the most innovation and appropriate engineering and financial principles within the three HAS airports.

     

    "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required”

    The Maintenance Mechanic I responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    + Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e., housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations,

    + Operates power and hand tool equipment, welding, signage cutters/printers

    + Performs basic Painting, welding, Signage fabricate/Install, carpentry

    + Monitors inventory control

    + Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required

    + Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, lubrication and repairs on machinery such as pumps, boilers, air conditioning units, meters, air compressors, backhoes, incinerators, plumbing, trucks and tractors

    + Uses hand tools and special equipment such as welding torches to test, repair, and maintain buildings' physical plants and equipment

    + May drive to and from work sites.

    + Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment

    + Keeps records of maintenance and repair work performed

    + Welds joints and pipes

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines OR techniques in a specific area OR trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education OR training beyond the High School level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    No experience is required.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

    May require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

    PREFERENCES

    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
