    Job Description

    Boston College invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President, Information Technology (VP, IT). This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary and experienced leader to shape the technological future of one of the nation's premier Jesuit, Catholic universities.

     

    Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, the VP, IT is charged with providing strategic vision and decisive leadership in shaping Information Technology plans and strategies that directly support the core mission and ambitious goals of the University.

     

    The Vice President will oversee a comprehensive and complex IT enterprise, fostering momentum, continuity, and stability within a dynamic and mission-aligned organization. This critical role encompasses a total staff of over 230 professionals, an operating budget of $62 million, and a capital budget of $11 million.

    Key priorities and major responsibilities include:

    IT Planning: Constantly evolving strategic plans, services and architectures in support of the University’s mission.

     

    Academic Support: Providing critical technological support for the research and teaching activities of the faculty including high performance computing services.

     

    Security: Ensuring robust computer security for confidentiality, integrity and availability concerns across the university.

     

    Technology Infrastructure: Directing the strategy and management of IT infrastructure including integration architecture, networks, servers, etc. on premises and in the cloud.

     

    Applications Portfolio:Lead the strategy and management of a broad portfolio of enterprise applications and data analytics services.

     

    Community Enablement: Overseeing technology training, multi-media and event services and communications, while providing essential IT support for students and the University's administrative and operational sectors.

     

    Provide rigorous financial stewardship over the annual operating and capital budget for IT and effectively manage the numerous supply chain relationships and contracts.

     

    Compensation

     

    The anticipated salary range for this pivotal role is $425,000 to $475,000.

    Requirements

    Boston College seeks an outstanding information technology professional and proven leader who thrives in a rigorous academic setting that focuses on the formation of students, faculty, and staff.

    Required Professional Experience

    A record of professional experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and significant senior-level management in a complex IT environment.

    A minimum of ten years of experience managing complex organizations, demonstrating proven leadership across strategic planning, consensus building, organizational leadership, and technical performance.

     

    Significant technical competence, having progressed through roles of increasing responsibility managing technology organizations.

     

    A strong customer service philosophy is essential, coupled with an in-depth understanding of the important roles of faculty, staff, and students, and their specialized needs for technical support.

     

    Candidates must have a proven record of collegial development of technology applications with diverse groups and interests.

    Required Education

    A master’s degree in a computer-related discipline, or an equivalent contribution of education and experience, is required.

     

    Equally significant are strong personal qualities including personal integrity, a high level of energy, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal relationship and team-building skills.
