    The Police Officer 2 position provides public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting, and enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    One year of law enforcement experience.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

     

    Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

     

    Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

     

    An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Patrols specific area on foot or by motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls for assistance. Identifies, pursues and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts as deemed necessary. Monitors traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures while on campus. Monitors. notes, reports and investigates suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards and unusual or illegal activity in patrolled areas. Secures classrooms, buildings and parking lots. Provides security escorts as requested.

    + Evaluates complaint information and requests for emergency services to determine and provide the appropriate response. Reviews facts of reported incidents to determine if a criminal law or college policy violation has occurred. Records facts to prepare written reports that accurately document incidents and activities.

    + Issues citation or warning to violators of college parking regulation and relevant traffic ordinances. Investigates all accidents to determine proximate causes and responds appropriately. Photographs or draws diagrams of crime or accident scenes. Interviews all witnesses to the incident. Testifies in court to present evidence or to act as a witness in traffic or criminal cases.

    + Certifies annually for permit to carry firearm. Maintains certifications and POST training updates to stay in compliance with POST certification.

    Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a Probationary Appointment

     

    Compensation: The Police Officer 2 offers a Special Entrance Rate$19.88 per hour.

     

    Applicants must be available to work atallDelgado Community College locations and shifts based upon the business needs of the department.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Preference will be given to candidates who possess an Active Louisiana Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

    + Possession of a current Louisiana Driver's License.

    + Pre-employment verification may be required for salary purposes

    + Offer of employment is contingent upon passing a drug test and successful completion of your background check.

    + All new hires will be subject to employment eligibility verification via the federal government's E-Verify system
