Job Responsibilities:
The Computer Laboratory Specialist II position is responsible for smooth functioning of all aspects of the teaching and research laboratories in the Computer Engineering Department. Manage and maintain the Computer Engineering Department's labs, lab equipment and computer systems and liaise with RIT Facilities Management and Information Technology Services as and when needed. Assist faculty and staff in their computer and hardware needs. Supervises the daily operations of laboratory facilities and research projects to maintain alignment with program strategic direction and curriculum goals. Facilitates laboratory risk planning and space management operations. Ensures Laboratory processes and operations are properly executed to maintain compliance and safety.
Responsibilities:
+ Responsible for maintaining PC Computers-- Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshoots and repairs pc computers and related equipment such as hard drives, memory, motherboards and processers.
+ Responsible for maintaining Software on PC Computers-- Runs updates, upgrades and patches on Windows, Microsoft Office and antivirus software. Runs imaging software, print managing software. Maintains software licensing and renewals.
+ Responsible for maintaining Computer Engineering Lab Equipment-- Maintains and upgrades electronic test equipment including but not limited to: oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers and power supplies. Maintains and upgrades printers, copiers and their respective toners cartridges.
+ Responsible for communicating with Vendors-- Organizes demonstration of equipment by vendors and is briefed on the latest technology. Maintains relationships to get optimal pricing. Arranges for trials on new advanced equipment. (osclliscopes, logic analyzers)
+ Manages Student Workers--Hires student workers. Supervises lab assistants. Coordinates teacher assistants, mentors and graders. Assigns hours according to work schedule. Assigns tasks to lab assistants, e.g. repairing lab equipment and tools.Manages and enters work hours for the students and staff into the payroll system.
+ Assists in preparing and managing budgets for the laboratory, ensuring financial sustainability
+ Researches New Equipment for Department Labs/Faculty-- Appraises new technology for computers such as processors, memory and peripherals. Aquires new testing boards such as freescale, Xilinx, and Digilent.
+ Manages Access to Department-- Issues and accounts for department keys. Programs card swipe access to labs using On-Guard Cardswipe System. Organizes/manages department office and drawer keys.
+ Outreach Activities-- Performs lab tours for prospective students. Coordinates project demos for open houses. Maintains project boards forCollege and Careers Days.
+ Responsible for maintaining Positive Department Image-- Manages the appearance of the labs to reflect a positive image.
+ Coordinates Interoffice Moves and Phone Service-- Sets up new or upgrades existing phone services. Coordinates office equipment moves, which includes computers, phones, signage, and personal items.
+ Facilitates Care of Department-- Coordinates work orders for general maintenance/repair and custodial cleaning of the building and surrounding areas.
+ Assists Faculty-- Installs software and hardware in the computers and labs as required to run their classes and research needs.
+ Leads the daily operations of assigned university laboratory, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and adherence to industry standards.
+ Develops and implements strategic plans for the laboratory, including expanding capabilities and diversifying service offerings.
+ Supervises the technical team, providing guidance and ensuring high-quality services.
+ Stays current on industry trends and technological advancements in assigned area of research.
+ Develops and facilitates educational opportunities, programs, curriculum, and workshops.
+ Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and five years of related experience **OR**
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The job requires using electrical power sources, live power outlets and physical fitness to carry equipment, supplies and computer hardware. The job requires physical ability for walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling and crawling occasionally for equipment installation, maintenance and removal. Candidate is required to be in sound sensory conditions such as hearing and eye-sight without known impairments that can affect the performance of essential functions in appendix.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with Linux, Mac OS, Linux tools such as Ansible, Spack
+ Programming Languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML
+ Familiarity with: Oracle, Kronos, Lenel card swipe system, CLAWS computer registration software, SCCM Imaging solution (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is a Windows product that enables the management, deployment and security of devices and applications across an enterprise)
