FUNCTION & SCOPE: The SUNY Charter Schools Institute was established in February 1999 for the purpose of evaluating proposals for new charter schools; ongoing monitoring of student academic performance, fiscal soundness, and overall school operations; and presenting recommendations on renewal of charters to the SUNY Trustees.
The School Finance Analyst reports to the Institute's Managing Director of School Finance and Operations and is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of fiscal performance and compliance of charter schools.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
+ Initiate system setup of tasks and submissions for schools and perform the intake process and initial analysis of school financial data submitted to the Institute, including quarterly financial reports, annual audit, budget templates, and other documents
+ Contribute to the Institute's ongoing digital transformation project (SUNY Compass) by evaluating, testing and providing feedback on development in finance and operations modules.
+ Provide technical assistance and support to charter schools to ensure correct submissions into the Compass platform. Work closely with data architects to maximize user interface experience.
+ Conduct initial stages of financial reviews of proposed applications for new charter schools, charter renewals, and revisions.
+ Communicate with charter schools regarding the Institute's policies, practices, and processes for fiscal submissions and related status.
+ Draft fiscal sections for inclusion in public-facing reports and other documents.
+ Review pre-opening financial submissions for new schools opening and assist charter leaders to understand submission and reporting requirements.
+ Support and track the review of facility leases, mortgages, and other facility financing documents and proposed revised budgets for accuracy, alignment, and fiscal soundness.
+ Provide technical assistance to charter schools regarding financial policies, procedures, compliance, internal controls, and facility financing.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
+ Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant field and three years of experience in accounting or finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Advanced Excel skills.
+ Ability to work independently and with large volumes of data while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to participate in school evaluation visits as needed.
Preferred:
+ Experience in auditing, compliance, financial monitoring or internal controls preferred.
+ Experience in not-for-profit or educational settings preferred.
+ Experience with Tableau preferred
SALARY: $65,000 - $75,000
