    Job Purpose

     

    This leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction, implementation, and operational excellence of the Herc Rentals network and voice infrastructure on an enterprise scale. The Senior Network Manager drives the design and optimization of high-performance, highly available core systems, providing visionary leadership and technical guidance to the network and voice teams. The role ensures network strategy aligns with business objectives, oversees large-scale initiatives, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and serves as a key advisor to senior IT and business leadership. Talent development, succession planning, and team growth are key priorities in supporting Herc Rentals’ ongoing expansion and innovation.

     

    What you will do...

     

    + Provide senior technical leadership and strategic oversight to network and voice teams, defining priorities and aligning resources to achieve organizational, security, and business continuity goals.

    + Develop and execute the roadmap for network and voice infrastructure evolution, ensuring systems support current and future business requirements, emerging technologies, and security standards.

    + Collaborate closely with executive management, Network Engineering, Desktop Engineering, Cloud Services, Applications, and other business units to advise on technology strategy, architecture, and enterprise projects..

    + Oversee the documentation of process design, workflows, and operational standards; promote knowledge management and process excellence across all teams.

    + Serve as the Senior Operational Lead for all network/voice managed services, assuring rapid incident resolution, proactive service management, and achievement of agreed-upon SLAs.

    + Manage departmental financial planning, including budget development, capital/expense tracking, and forecasting for large-scale investments.

    + Oversee performance monitoring and analytics for all network and voice systems, presenting executive summaries with actionable insights to IT leadership.Function as the highest escalation point for complex operational issues, ensuring timely resolution and root-cause analysis.

    + Lead critical problem investigations, drive cross-departmental initiatives, and continuously improve operational efficiency and disaster recovery posture.

    + Represent Herc Rentals in strategic vendor management, negotiating service agreements, leading vendor performance reviews, and managing escalations across a complex multi-vendor environment.

    + Oversee project management and coordination for major upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.

    + Mentor, develop, and retain top network and voice engineering talent; develop succession plans and support team member career growth.

    Requirements

    Technical:

    + 10+ years of relevant work experience in network and voice solutions

    + Technical experience in network, VoIP, data center, and wireless in an enterprise environment

    + Experience working with, designing, and supporting IP Telephony, Linux, Microsoft Server, VMware virtual environments, specifically datacenter networking

    + Experience with Cloud Services, including AWS, OCI and Azure including VPC’s, Transit Gateway, virtual firewall & network appliances, security groups, and connectivity with cloud-based workloads.

    + Experience leading projects developing and/or deploying network infrastructure

    + Experience managing telecom, hardware, and service vendors to meet business objectives and SLAs

    + Experience with routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP)

    + Experience with SD-WAN solutions

    + Experience with migration of on-prem Voice to UCaaS

    + Experience with Layer 7 / Application layer firewalls including Rulesets, ACL’s & troubleshooting application workloads on the network.

    + Experience with iSCSI & SAN / Storage.

    + Experience migration from On-Prem Solutions to Cloud platforms

    + Experience with Telecom & Circuit management

    + Excellent troubleshooting skills & problem resolution

    + ITIL certification preferred

    + Ability to work on-call, nights, and weekends as needed for operations & projects.

    + Ability to travel up to 25% as needed for project delivery.

    + Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Leadership & Administrative

    + Experience negotiating & reviewing SOW’s with vendors

    + Experience managing Sev 1 incidents

    + Experience negotiating renewals with vendors.

    + Experience building cost model justification for new technologies & initiatives.

    + Experience running RFP’s & overseeing the selection process for new technologies & partners.

    + Experience managing KPI’s, Metrics, & SLA’s for the team’s performance.

    **Education** :

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.

    + An advanced degree is preferred.

    + Industry certifications (Cisco, AWS, Fortinet, ITIL) strongly preferred

    Skills

    + Exceptional executive communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, including C-suite.

    + Superior documentation, process improvement, and analytics skills.

    + Visionary, resourceful, and strategic thinker able to lead through ambiguity; inspires teams to achieve high performance and innovation.
