    Summary The Radiology Department is currently seeking an MRI Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to add to their team. The incumbent, as a member of the MRI technical staff, independently performs high quality images on a variety of MRI imaging equipment while applying MRI Safety measures with every patient. The employee will work with department leadership in support of complex clinical and research. Responsibilities Providing advice and assistance in the design and planning of MRI-related research projects as needed. Modifying the imaging protocols as appropriate in order to optimize the capabilities of MRI equipment. Serving as a liaison between radiologists and technical support staff (scientific and engineering) in facilitating software and hardware upgrades and service. Operating scanner software systems as per department guidelines. Performing MR imaging within the scope of being able to image anything within the human body. Screening and coordinating patients for examinations, including emergency procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI) GS-0647-10: You must have: (1) successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the credentialing standards described in 42 CFR Part 75 that is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, AND (2) be certified as a radiographer as evidenced by an active state or national license which is in good standing. The following meets the above standards: 1. Persons employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel prior to January 13,1986 who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. 2. Persons first employed by the Federal Government as a radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State of foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, OR (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. Additional Qualifications requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following tasks: applying multi-modality procedures and performing multi-modality examinations within the MRI XRAY functionality; counseling patients regarding the risks/benefits of the procedure and producing images for the examination; monitoring scanner and computers for any malfunction so corrective action can be taken; assisting in the design and planning of new imaging methods and techniques; assisting in operating scanner software and computer operating systems; and assisting in maintaining patient records and logs of patient's images for research review. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay. Additional Information This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage. Based on your appointment, a one or two-year trial/probationary period may be required. A decision regarding your continued employment with NIH will be made as you near the end of this period. The work requires extreme periods of standing and walking, and assisting patients on and off of the imaging tables. Reaching is required to properly direct equipment to the area being examined. Positioning patients who are unconscious or disabled requires considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Heavy lifting of totally incapacitated patients is done only with the help of other employees. The work area is well lighted, climate controlled and ventilated. Special safety precautions are required to ensure patient, and staff safety within the MR environment.
