Summary
The Water Data Governance & Analytics (WDGA) team is an Analytics Competency Center within Water Information Technology Services (WITS), designed to provide state-of-the-art data analytics and reporting, including tools and data architecture, to improve the value of information and provide insights for operational efficiencies and customer service across the Water Stewardship organization. This role involves working on a cross-functional Data Governance and Analytics team developing analytics products throughout the data lifecycle.
As a Data Engineer/Analytics Developer on this team, you will be responsible for transforming raw data from diverse sources into actionable insights that drive business decisions. This role blends data engineering with business intelligence and analytics. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment alongside data scientists, data engineers, business stakeholders, and IT professionals throughout SRP and its Water organization to design efficient data models, build robust data pipelines, and deliver impactful dashboards and visualizations using visual storytelling techniques.
What You'll Do
• Design, build, and manage complex, high-performing multi-user analytic solutions using both on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory to integrate data from sources like Snowflake and SQL Server.
• Define and develop dashboards and interactive visualizations that communicate business metrics and performance indicators.
• Source, profile, and analyze data to uncover trends and support decision-making.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into analytical data models and dashboards.
• Apply data exploration, transformation, and basic statistical methods to improve data quality and generate insights.
• Analyze and design physical databases, ensuring query optimization.
• Handle other duties and projects assigned.
What It Takes To Succeed
Technical Skills
• Languages: SQL (T-SQL, SnowSQL), Python
• Platforms/Tools: Power BI, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Factory, SSRS, Dataiku
• Databases: SQL Server
• Additional: Knowledge of SAP BI is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced proficiency in Power BI
• Strong proficiency with SQL and T-SQL in a SQL Server environment
• Experience coding ETL/ELT processes in Azure Data Factory
• Expertise in modern database technologies, data integration, reporting
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and data modeling (2+ years preferred)
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and present analysis and technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
• Curiosity and passion around data, data visualization, and problem solving
• Creativity to determine novel solutions for real-world problems with quantitative data
• Experience working on an Agile/Scrum team
• Knowledge of SRP water software systems and data
Experience
• For a Level 1 (Associate), a minimum of no previous years of experience to two years related experience is required (if no degree, four-six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling four-six years).
• For a Level 2 (Journey), a minimum of two years of experience to four years related experience is required (if no degree, six-eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling six-eight years).
• For a Level 3 (Senior), a minimum of five years of related experience is required (if no degree, nine years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling nine years).
Education
A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
