Job Description
Purpose:
The Instructional Designer II will be responsible for working with the SME to develop course content based on the following process: needs assessment, identification of learning objectives/competencies, course outline development, storyboarding, content creation (narrative and presentation), formative assessment and evaluation. Ensure completeness of course elements and confirm alignment of course content to the approved course outline. Develop and/or maintain systems to ensure quality, productivity as well as consistency across content. Work with team to assess course performance to determine return-on-investment and future opportunities.
Responsibilities:
+ Develop a deep understanding of the manufacturing professional education course portfolio
+ Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem. Taking ownership of issues and following them through to completion.
+ Present ideas and concepts to both internal and external stakeholders and clients
+ Listen to and/or take notes during client interviews, review documents to gather context on the business’ need, learner needs to fully understand goal of project.
+ Contribute to designing a learner-centric solution to those needs whether it be a single workshop or tool, a series of solutions or a multi-part certification and/or certificate program.
+ Listen to and take notes during subject matter experts (SMEs) interviews or conduct secondary research to supplement your knowledge to when building a solution’s design.
+ Own the build of slides, writing scenarios, cases, detailed facilitator notes or video script, measurement tools and secure materials to develop the design from start to finish.
+ Actively collect feedback from learners, clients and the project team during and after a design to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
+ Collaborate with the client services & broader learning and development (i.e. editors, graphic designers) teams on the development of the training.
+ Make recommendations for enhancements and/or revisions of course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices. Integrate feedback into training materials and delivery for continuous improvement.
+ Conduct initial needs assessment and content analysis as part of the collaboration with industry and/or SMEs.
+ Author original content and modify existing materials in partnership with SMEs.
+ Create design documents (course outlines, storyboards, design mockups, etc.) to guide course development process. Design successful assessments and evaluation methods. Present documentation for evaluation decisions.
+ Provide input on the solution’s design or help support its delivery, as needed.
+ This position may require direct engagement with minors and youth during program activities. The employee is expected to fully adhere to all university policies and state regulations pertaining to the safety and protection of minors.

What is needed:
+ Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Two years of related experience
What is helpful:
+ Experience and demonstrated success in writing and building materials for unique adult learning and workforce development solutions across modalities - face-to-face, live-virtual, presentation capture, self-directed/asynchronous, etc.
+ Experience working with SMEs to create effective adult learning solutions preferably in engineering or other technical fields.
+ Prior experience in courses or learning on Instructional Design specifically with wire framing, storyboarding, ID tools, file management, etc.
+ Experience in working projects using Project Management concepts and effectively prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and work objectives.
+ Experience with learning management systems (prefer Canvas).
+ Experience in Train the trainer models
+ Spanish speaking and/or experience creating Spanish translated content preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ General knowledge of learning theories and technology.
+ Demonstrate strong leadership skills in communicating complex processes and content into simple and easy to understand concepts.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
+ Proficient with project management systems.
+ Strong influencing, interpersonal and interdepartmental skills in a diverse higher education environment.
+ Superior presentation and facilitation skills.
+ Excellent and efficient writing and communication talents.
+ Copyediting and proofreading skills are beneficial.
+ Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.
+ Ability to prioritize project timelines and use time efficiently.
