Assistant Professor (Directing/Acting) —Theatre Department, School of Arts and Sciences
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Theatre at Hunter College seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position for a director/acting teacher with expertise in musical theatre to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in acting and directing and direct departmental productions to begin in August 2026.
We are looking for an experienced director who also possesses a solid background in various actor training techniques. Additional areas of specialization are desirable and should be specified in the cover letter. The candidate should provide evidence of professional promise, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. Continued creative activity required for tenure and promotion. The candidate should identify with the mission of the department which sees theatre as an integral part of a liberal arts education and should be an active participant in the life of the department.
The Hunter College Theatre Department is a diverse community of students and award-winning faculty right in the heart of New York City and its vibrant theatre scene.
Responsibilities:
• Teach courses in acting and directing and other areas of specialization on the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Direct departmental productions.
• Provide academic advising and mentor student production work
• contribute to curriculum development.
• Serve on college and departmental committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Completed MFA, DFA, or Ph.D. in Directing/Acting of Theatre.
• A minimum of three years’ teaching on the college or conservatory level.
• Publicly recognized professional directing/acting experience.
• Recent MFA graduates with no professional or teaching experience will not be considered.
COMPENSATION
$86,741 – $102,017; Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
