    Position Details

    The City College of New York seeks applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor - Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian to be appointed in Spring 2026. This is a full time, tenure-track position. Librarians at CUNY have faculty rank and status and are expected to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion including librarianship, scholarship, and service.

     

    The Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian (Assistant/Associate Professor) is responsible for a wide range of collection development activities related to the selection, purchase and receipt of library resources in multiple formats. The incumbent librarian works collegially with CCNY faculty both within and outside the libraries to acquire resources in support of the college community’s curricula, programs, and research needs. The incumbent librarian manages the expenditure of material funds allocations within the constraints of an approved budget, under the leadership of the Chief of Technical Services. The incumbent librarian performs other duties as assigned to advance the goals of the CCNY Libraries in connection with the strategic goals of the College.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Oversees daily acquisitions operation, including coordinating workflow related to ordering, receiving, and claiming library materials; tracks expenditures and purchase orders as needed.

    + Coordinates the selection of library materials collaboratively with faculty and coordinates collection development and related policies internally with librarians.

    + Serves as a liaison to selected academic departments/programs.

    + Ensures good working relationships with Accounts Payable and addresses internal and external accounting issues as needed.

    + Monitors the collection budget, including assisting with reconciling campus accounting with internal library accounting.

    + Supervises Collection Development and Acquisitions Assistant, in addition to other paraprofessional staff and student workers.

    + Establishes and maintains effective vendor relationships; monitors performance and pricing; and resolves issues involving orders, receipts, and payments.

    + Prepares and submits online requisitions, budgetary reports, and expenditure summaries.

    + Participates in collection evaluation and weeding projects with librarians as needed.

    + Teaches information literacy workshops, planned in collaboration with disciplinary faculty.

    + Assists at the library’s reference desk, as scheduled.

    + Stays current on trends in acquisitions, publishing, licensing, and library resource purchasing.

    + Works with the Chief of Technical Services, Acquisitions staff and the collection development committee to review and update procedures for ordering, receiving, and payment of library materials.

    + Submits statistical reports as needed.

    + Analyzes acquisitions and spending data; prepares reports to support collection planning.

    + Serves on library and college committees and participates in professional activities as appointed.

    + Attends local, state, and national professional meetings to maintain and share expertise.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    All titles require a Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution. Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

    For Assistant or Associate Professor:

    A second Master's Degree or Ph.D. degree at the time of appointment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + A minimum of two years' experience in collection development and acquisitions, or any equivalent combination of experience/training/coursework that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    + Advanced mathematical skills.

    + Experience with NY State and CUNY procurement processes.

    + Experience with CUNY based systems and software.

    + Clear and effective oral and written communication.

    + Demonstrated evidence of involvement in professional research activities.

    + Evidence of professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

    + Candidates must be legally authorized to work full-time in the United States.

    COMPENSATION

    **Assistant Professor:** $86,741 - $98,995

    **Associate Professor:** $98,995 - $105,816
