    Embedded Software Engineer

    Job Description

    The Embedded Software Engineer will serve as the primary engineer for a global software build process, supporting the research, design, development, build, and testing of low-layer software. This includes OS integration, I/O drivers, and boot processes that interface with a wide variety of electronic controls hardware, such as ECU/ECMs. The role involves building and documenting team software releases and occasionally developing low-layer software.

    Responsibilities

    + Build, test, and release production software.

    + Develop and maintain CI tool/scripting technologies to support the build pipeline.

    + Evaluate and adopt new script languages, development tools, or processes.

    + Perform maintenance on existing products.

    + Manage the software lifecycle through version control and configuration management.

    + Stay informed about new technologies and contribute to the development of new technologies.

    + Communicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers, and other units.

    + Conceptualize, design, test, document, and promote new software features and processes.

    + Conduct requirements analysis and decomposition.

    + Support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers, and suppliers.

    Essential Skills

    + Real-world real-time embedded device driver experience.

    + Experience designing embedded electronics controls, display, or telematics software.

    + Proficiency in Git version management.

    + Experience troubleshooting and debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes.

    + Experience with control software design patterns and anti-patterns.

    + Proficiency in programming languages like Bash shell, ANSI C, Python.

    + Experience with Agile software development processes.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Minimum BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Computer Science or comparable fields considered if experience is relevant.

    + 5-8 years of industry experience.

    + Master's degree or higher relevant internship/project experience can be considered towards the minimum requirement.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    + Problem-solving skills, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to read schematics and data sheets for components.

    + Capability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed.

    Work Environment

    This position requires onsite work 5 days a week in an Agile environment. Engagement with software developers and hardware is mandatory. The role offers a long-term opportunity to work on new technology. Typical tasks include initiating and monitoring special software builds, designing build pipeline solutions, and managing software versioning. The position involves coding solutions in C, unit testing, and regression testing.

    This is a Contract position based out of Dunlap, IL.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
