Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Survey Technician with three years of experience in commercial surveying fields. You will be responsible for maintaining accountability for the actions and productivity of the field crew, as well as the operation and maintenance of survey equipment. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with the Survey Manager to develop proposals and coordinate with clients on existing projects.
Responsibilities
+ Assist the Survey Manager in managing field crew members, ranging from 3-8 technicians.
+ Calculate and upload/download data points using GPS monitors and mapping equipment.
+ Read and comprehend construction drawings and calculate construction layouts.
+ Work directly with design engineers, clients, safety officers, and the public.
+ Plan and execute an efficient scanning/survey workflow.
+ Comply with all Construction Site OSHA rules.
+ Participate in required company training programs.
+ Operate GPS, Robotic Total Stations, and 3D Scanners proficiently.
+ Perform fieldwork for boundary surveys, construction layout, and topographic mapping.
+ Set up and maintain survey equipment, ensuring proper storage and battery readiness.
+ Collect accurate measurements and maintain proper note-taking format.
+ Convert measurements (inches to 100th of a foot) and assist with level loops and elevation calculations.
+ Communicate effectively with team members and clients, maintaining professionalism on job sites.
+ Load/unload equipment daily and keep the survey vehicle stocked and organized.
Essential Skills
+ Surveying and land surveying expertise.
+ Crew scheduling experience.
+ Proficiency in GPS and robotic hardware.
+ Expert knowledge of survey programs and software, including 3D scanning software.
+ Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
+ Field leadership qualities to manage crews and represent the company on jobsites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Preferred two-year civil degree or two-year surveying certification.
+ Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Experience in a civil engineering or surveying office, preferably commercial.
+ Experience performing boundary research and executing field staking.
Work Environment
This position is within a small, family-owned business that values personality and kind-hearted candidates. The culture is team-oriented, with direct access to the VP and Owner, offering autonomy in the role. You will report directly to the Survey Manager and spend time in the job trailer for documentation and reporting. The role requires daily travel to job sites, with work conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions. The hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with occasional Saturdays required as needed. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lincoln, NE.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
