As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement cutting-edge automation control systems, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions. You will program and troubleshoot automation hardware and software across platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens, while supporting the integration of robotics, motion control, and process automation systems. Collaborate closely with project teams to deliver custom automation solutions on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
+ Design, develop, and implement automation control systems including PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions.
+ Program and troubleshoot automation hardware and software, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
+ Support the design and integration of robotics, motion control, and process automation systems.
+ Collaborate with project teams to deliver custom automation solutions on time and within budget.
+ Provide advanced technical support and mentorship to automation technicians.
+ Develop system documentation including control logic, schematics, and operation manuals.
+ Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as NFPA, NEC, UL 508A, and OSHA.
+ Participate in system commissioning, testing, and field service as required.
+ Develop bid strategies and review proposals for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.
+ Maintain strong vendor and subcontractor relationships to support competitive pricing.
+ Provide oversight and technical guidance for the UL508A panel shop.
+ Continually improve automation department processes, procedures, and best practices.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls, or related field (or equivalent experience).
+ 7+ years of experience in automation engineering, controls design, and programming.
+ Proficiency in PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems programming and troubleshooting.
+ Experience with industrial networks like Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Modbus.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, and UL 508A.
+ Industry experience in agricultural, food and beverage, and industrial markets.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency with automation & controls software and construction software tools like Bluebeam.
+ Strong understanding of NEC and industry best practices.
+ Experience with design-build or design-assist projects.
+ Familiarity with industrial and commercial electrical installations/projects.
+ Rockwell Automation badges.
+ Experience with industrial networking - EtherNet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet, Profibus.
+ Template and standards creation (AutoCAD, PLC Programming, Ignition).
+ Familiarity with robotics and motion control is highly desirable.
Work Environment
Candidates will work in an office setting with the automation team, consisting of 5 members. The role requires about 25% travel across Kansas, with advanced notice provided for any overnight travel.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newton, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $76.92/hr.
