Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Lab Analyst to join our team responsible for newborn screening testing on blood spot specimens. This role involves using various methods such as immunoassay, enzyme assay, electrophoresis, HPLC, tandem mass spectrometry, and molecular methods to identify infants at risk for inherited conditions.
Responsibilities
+ Perform daily operations and routine maintenance, calibration, and assist in troubleshooting laboratory instruments and equipment.
+ Document and review newborn screening test data, procedures, and results.
+ Release data and reports for use by physicians and healthcare professionals.
+ Maintain standard operating procedures and prepare documentation for test verification or validation studies.
+ Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures as per established standards.
+ Recognize and troubleshoot basic laboratory method and performance issues.
+ Assemble quality control data, recognize problems, document issues, perform root cause analysis, and initiate corrective actions.
Essential Skills
+ Strong foundation in Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, HPLC, and mass spectrometry.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) qualifications for high complexity testing.
+ Minimum of 3 months hands-on laboratory experience.
+ Ability to conduct high complexity testing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Certified Medical Lab Technologist or MLT is a plus.
+ Six months to one year of newborn screening (NBS) laboratory experience is desirable.
+ Basic experience with immunoassay, mass spectrometry, and molecular biology techniques.
+ Completion of college coursework in human genetics.
+ Experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC).
Work Environment
The lab operates 24/7 to ensure timely testing of newborn blood specimens for potential inherited disorders. The position requires overnight shifts with a schedule of 5 days on, 4 days off, rotating through weekends and holidays. Flexibility is offered for specific weekend off requests. The typical hours are from 9:30 PM to 7:30 AM, with initial training during the day from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The team consists of about 7 members, working in three separate testing areas, rotating nightly. Dress code includes long pants and closed-toed shoes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ankeny, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
