    Assistant Technical Director

    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

    Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree and two [2] years of directly related full time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four [4] full-time years may be considered. Two [2] years of full-time experience in technical theater, including lighting, scenery, sound, or set construction. Demonstrated proficiency in one or more areas of technical theater (lighting, sound, rigging, or stagecraft). Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and variable hours based on performance and event schedules.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) or equivalent combination of education and experience in Technical Theatre, Stage Production, or a related field. Three (3) years of full-time experience in technical theater production in a performing arts or related environment. Experience in theater lighting installation, focusing, consoles, and software. Experience in theater audio consoles, equipment, and audio operations. Working knowledge of Vectorworks software. Experience in digital cinematic projection (i.e. Panasonic & Christie). Experience supervising technical crews and ensuring adherence to safety standards. Supervisory experience in managing theatrical crews.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) supports the Technical Director and Production Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of all technical operations for performances, events, and productions presented at the Staller Center for the Arts. The ATD helps ensure the safe and efficient use of facilities, supervises technical crews, maintains production equipment, and assists in delivering high-quality performances that support the mission of the University and the Staller Center. The Assistant Technical Director should have the following qualities: Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrate a sense of urgency and act responsively. The ability to work unsupervised as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Personable, friendly, and helpful - a team player with a positive attitude.

    Duties:

    + Assist in planning and executing all technical elements of events, including lighting, sound, staging, projection and rigging.

    + Supervise and execute load-ins, rehearsals, performances, and loadouts for university, community, and touring productions.

    + Coordinate and execute technical requirements with visiting artists, university departments, and external clients.

    + Ensure compliance with University and OSHA safety standards during all technical operations.

    + Assist in maintaining, repairing, and inventorying production equipment, tools, and materials.

    + Train, schedule, and supervise student employees, stagehands, and overhire crews.

    + Stay informed about industry standards and new technologies relevant to performance production.

    + Provide support to the Technical Director and Production Manager on large-scale events.

    + Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

    Special Notes:

    This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

     

    In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

     

    Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

     

    Must be capable of climbing three flights of stairs frequently and occasionally work on the theater grid above the stage. Must be capable of communicating by phone with clients as well as in person. Must be capable of frequently lifting material up to 30 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
