This faculty position will develop a clinical program focused on the treatment of body image and other psychosocial needs of patients referred to Plastic Surgery for reconstructive, plastic and microvascular surgery for cancer patients in both the Texas Medical Center and the Houston Area Locations. This position will assess, diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders through various methods. The incumbent will be responsible for diagnosing psychological, emotional or behavioral disorders and is required to develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes to care for patients. The incumbent in this position must also engage in research on cancer-related body image disturbance and provide an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and other trainees in Plastic Surgery. This faculty position is reports to the Chairman of Plastic Surgery who reports to the Head of the Division of Surgery.
Candidates for this position must be licensed as a Psychologist through the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (or be license eligible), have completed an APA accredited internship, and be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Additionally, candidates must have completed 2 years of experience as instructor or 5 years post degree. Candidates who are Board Certified by American Board of Clinical Psychology or American Board of Professional Psychology or have completed a postdoctoral fellowship or have specialty training in psychosocial oncology, health psychology and/or body image counseling are preferred.
