This is a highly complex position operating with considerable independence and must exercise discretion and judgment in evaluating cases for establishing paternity, obtaining medical and child support orders.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Prepares and try civil suits in courts of primary jurisdiction and in appellate courts involving issues of establishment of CSE paternity and support obligation.

+ Reviews and approves legal documents.

+ Provides legal analysis/interpretations of state and federal statues, rules and regulations to ensure agency compliance.

+ Serves as legal counsel to Regional Child Support Enforcement office.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: : This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee

Career Progression: May be filled as an Attorney 1-3 depending on experience.

Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.

Work Location: Orleans

Compensation:

Special Entrance Rates have been established for the following Attorney job titles:

Attorney 1 $27.08 hourly (AS-617)

Attorney 2 $28.98 hourly (AS-618)

Attorney 3 $32.02 hourly (AS-620)

The referenced positions are also eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour for hours work based on specific criteria.
