Job Summary:
The Senior Project Manager oversees major heavy civil, marine, and underwater construction projects, providing advanced leadership in planning, estimating, technical execution, risk management, and operational excellence. This role serves as the senior estimator and project lead on complex, high-value projects, supporting the Area Manager and Operations Manager while ensuring strategic alignment with company objectives.
This role is project-based with the full intention of transitioning to permanent employment after the project concludes in 2027. As the Senior Project Manager for a major marine/civil project in Hopewell, VA, you will oversee all phases of construction with a strong focus on complex pile driving and deep foundation work. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, serve as the primary client liaison, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective project execution on a high-profile regional initiative.

Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Experience:
• 10+ years’ experience in heavy civil, mechanical, marine, or underwater construction industries.
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not required.
• Extensive experience in pile driving operations, including development of means and methods, oversight of installation, production tracking, quality control, and coordination with geotechnical engineers.
• Demonstrated VDOT experience, including familiarity with state specifications, construction standards, permitting, and project documentation requirements.
• Extensive experience managing large-scale, complex construction projects and multi-disciplinary field teams.
• Advanced knowledge of construction contracts, including general/special terms and conditions.
• Experience executing Design-Build, EPC, ECI, CMAR, and alternate procurement methods at a senior level.
Skills:
• Expert-level proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Microsoft Office Suite, and advanced construction/PM software.
• Demonstrated ability to lead pursuit efforts, including proposal strategy, technical submissions, schedules, and pricing.
• Ability to assemble and mentor internal technical teams to support project delivery.
• Formulation of technical proposals, including technical means and methods, schedules, and pricing.
• Strong decision-making, communication, negotiation, and technical writing skills.
Responsibilities:
• Lead project planning, including analysis of specifications, schedule development, staffing plans, and submittals.
• Direct and mentor supervisory personnel, subcontractors, and field teams to ensure efficient execution and prevent delays.
• Serve as the escalation point for field issues, labor concerns, and stakeholder coordination.
• Collaborates with management, engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
• Manage project risk through proactive identification, mitigation planning, and maintenance of risk registers.
• Manage scope, schedule, and cost changes through structured verification techniques.
• Oversee project financials, including cost controls, subcontractor approvals, forecasting, invoicing, and reporting.
• Maintain strict compliance with safety and environmental standards while promoting a strong safety culture.
• Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs.
• Maintains and measures project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, resolving problems.
• Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
• Negotiates terms of agreements, drafts contracts, and obtains permits and licenses.
• Creates, maintains, and submits various reports such as the Management of Cost to Complete report, Management of Work in Progress Report, and daily reports.
• Prepare and present project reports, including cost-to-complete, progress metrics, trends, and recommendations.
• Responsible for overseeing the work of field engineers, project engineers, general foreman and superintendents.
• Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
• Working outdoors in various temperatures and conditions.
• Wears various PPE (respirators, fall protection, etc.).
• Will travel on various land, water, and aircraft.
• Lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting for various periods of time.
• Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to travel up to 75% of the year.
Salary Range:
• $175K - $215K per year
• Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications
