    Your Opportunity

    Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support our Great Lakes Regional environmental remediation team based out of the Twin Cities, Minnesota. This position provides client support and technical expertise for groundwater, soil vapor, and soil remediation projects across multiple industries. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving and communication skills, experience in environmental remediation and due diligence, and the ability to coordinate tasks and manage project activities. Professional licensure (e.g. PE, PG) is preferred.

     

    Projects include environmental due diligence for real estate transactions and redevelopment, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remedial investigations and remediation for soil, groundwater, and soil vapor, asbestos and hazardous materials assessments, various environmental compliance and permitting projects, grant program assistance, environmental cleanup, and business development.

     

    This position requires effective communication and networking skills to promote internal opportunities for professional development and support external client and project needs.

    Your Key Responsibilities

     

    - Coordinate and assist with environmental due diligence projects, including Phase I ESAs and soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations.

     

    - Support proposal development and general marketing and business development activities.

     

    - Assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations.

     

    - Provide technical input and review for projects and reports.

     

    - Support and provide guidance to field staff and contractors.

     

    - Manage data, QA/QC, interpretation, and evaluation/comparison to applicable State environmental regulatory standards.

     

    - Collect and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

     

    - Compile, evaluate, analyze, and present/report subsurface investigation data.

     

    - Prepare technical correspondence, technical reports, work plans, investigation and cleanup grant applications, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.

     

    - Coordinate and interface with clients, government agencies, and other Stantec offices to provide client support.

     

    - General understanding of engineering plans and specifications.

     

    - Contribute to design and optimization of environmental remediation systems and strategies.

     

    - Prepare health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.

     

    - Plan, review, and communicate the project health and safety plan so that project personnel, client, and subcontractors are aware of risks and hazards, and incidents are prevented.

     

    - Coordinate and support subcontractors, including health and safety management.

     

    - Fieldwork, site visits, including local travel, and some regional travel, when necessary (20-30%).

     

    - Network and market your skills internally and externally to promote organic growth of projects and clients.

     

    - Support and mentor team members.

    - Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    - Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

    - Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and meet strict deadlines.

     

    - Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for proposal and project needs.

     

    - Ability to pass a background security check.

     

    - Valid US driver’s license and good driving record.

     

    Education and Experience

     

    - Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related scientific field is required.

     

    - Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) License preferred, but not required.

     

    - Current 40-Hr HAZWOPER training preferred.

     

    - 5+ years of relevant experience required.

     

    - Position will primarily work in an office setting but will require some field work and field site visits. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Extended hours and schedules may be necessary to fit project demands.
