Job Overview
The Business Controls Manager is responsible for the end-to-end governance and management of all policies and procedures within mortgage originations. This individual is the primary custodian of the official documentation library, ensuring all materials are continuously kept current, compliant, and clearly articulated. Crucially, the role involves diligent follow-up with business units to confirm adherence, facilitate necessary updates, and ensure all materials are readily accessible to relevant stakeholders.
A Typical Day
+ Policy & Procedure Lifecycle Management:
+ Development: Lead the drafting, review, and approval process for all new or revised origination policies and procedures in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
+ Maintenance: Ensure a disciplined policy review calendar is maintained, requiring timely updates to reflect changes in regulatory guidance, business processes, systems, and product offerings.
+ Distribution: Manage the central repository for policies, ensuring version control and clear communication of changes to affected teams.
+ Control Environment & Risk Mitigation:
+ Translate policy requirements into specific, measurable internal controls within the origination processes.
+ Identify potential control gaps, weaknesses, or operational bottlenecks and recommend necessary procedural enhancements to mitigate risk.
+ Act as the primary liaison during internal and external audits, providing accurate and comprehensive policy and procedure evidence.
+ Compliance & Regulatory Alignment:
+ Partner closely with the Compliance department to interpret new or evolving federal and state regulations and ensure timely, accurate integration into operational procedures.
+ Conduct periodic desk reviews and policy deep dives to verify that executed practices align perfectly with documented procedures (Control Testing Support).
+ Stakeholder Partnership & Training Support:
+ Serve as the expert consultant for Operations, Sales, Technology, and Training teams regarding policy interpretation and procedural guidance.
+ Support the Training department by providing finalized policy documentation and clarifying procedural intent for use in training materials.
What You’ll Bring
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
+ 5+ years of relevant work experience
+ Leadership & management ability
+ Legal Compliance experience & knowledge of Reg Z, Reg X & Dodd Frank
+ Must be highly proficient in Excel and Word
+ Mortgage industry experience preferred

Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:
+ Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role
+ Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role
+ Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role
Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
