Job Summary
To strengthen our leadership in emerging technologies, STS is seeking a Director, Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) with a proven track record in early-stage innovation, venture building, global ecosystem development, and technology strategy.
They will lead strategic investments, ecosystem partnerships, and venture incubation efforts in our Sustainable Technology Solutions division. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s long-term innovation agenda by identifying early-stage startups, emerging technologies, and market opportunities aligned with our core businesses.
This role will also collaborate with STS engineering, R&D, strategy, and business development teams to translate market needs into investment theses and scalable innovation pathways—while managing partnerships with high-growth startups, accelerators, universities, and VC firms.
This position is hybrid with up to 90% travel as needed.
Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Investment Strategy & Origination
+ Develop and refine KBR’s early-stage venture investment thesis aligned with the strategic growth priorities
+ Identify early-stage companies in the energy, critical minerals, fuels and adjacent space, high-end design solutions, and smart solutions to optimize planned and operating assets —drawing on established networks across venture capital, engineering ecosystems, and AI innovation hubs.
+ Build a robust deal pipeline through accelerators, VC syndicates, universities, and industry networks.
+ Lead technical and commercial due diligence with cross-functional engineering teams.
+ Serve as a liaison between KBR, VC and startups
+ Develop and lead operation of the incubation and acceleration programs for the early stage ventures
Portfolio Management & Value Creation
+ Define and track KPIs and strategic-fit criteria to assess how each investment supports STS’s goals.
+ Drive partnership opportunities—joint development agreements, pilot programs, customer introductions, and co-innovation initiatives.
+ Provide portfolio founders with access to KBR’s technical expertise, engineering services, R&D programs, and global channels.
+ Serve as board observer for select portfolio companies.
Corporate Alignment & Cross-Functional Leadership
+ Partner with STS strategy, engineering, and commercial teams to identify gaps and emerging technologies
+ Translate long-range strategic priorities into venture investment roadmaps.
+ Socialize insights from the venture ecosystem (market scans, competitive analyses, technology trend reports) with senior leadership.
+ Partner with KBR internal departments including R&D, engineering business units, product, corporate development, and strategy teams to define strategic gaps.
+ Build internal venture governance, including investment committees, reporting, and compliance.
Ecosystem Partnerships & Innovation Acceleration
+ Build relationships with top-tier VC funds, research labs, innovation hubs, and engineering universities.
+ Lead collaborations with accelerators and incubators to drive early-stage innovation relevant to the enterprise.
+ Represent KBR at industry events, conferences, and investor forums.
Basic Qualifications
+ 12 years of experience in venture capital, corporate venture, technology scouting, corporate development, or engineering strategy.
+ Demonstrated track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments, including board-level engagement.
+ Proven ability to drive cross-functional initiatives, influence senior leaders, and manage complex stakeholder environments.
+ Exceptional financial modeling, due diligence, and valuation skills.
+ Strong communication, negotiation, and executive presence.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Prior experience in a top-tier Venture Capital or Early-stage venture incubation
+ Experience managing innovation programs, venture studios, or strategic partnerships driving innovation.
+ Global network across startup, VC, and engineering innovation ecosystems.
+ Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into strategic narratives.
+ Engineering degree and MBA preferred
