This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an **Early Career Geologist** for the **Wilmington, NC** or **New Bern, NC** locations. This candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in projects across our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization with exciting and impactful projects helping our clients meet their site investigation and remediation goals.
Your Impact
+ Support data collection efforts for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
+ Conduct environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
+ Assist field site investigation, subsurface boring and trenching oversight, and monitoring of groundwater and extraction well installations.
+ Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation of field sampling activities using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
+ Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
+ Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.
+ Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
+ 0 to 1 years of experience working as a Geologist.
+ Proficient with geological research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.
+ Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
+ Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
+ Proactive, can-do attitude to support dynamic projects and diverse client base
+ Effective at coordinating and assertively directing others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
+ Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
+ Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
+ Periodic travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
+ Professional certification track.
+ 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
+ Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
