    The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and drive commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing, and customer experiences.

    Role & Responsibilities:

    The Brand Design Strategy team sets the vision for how the American Express brand is expressed across every touchpoint — shaping a cohesive, modern, and globally resonant multi-sensory identity grounded in authenticity and heritage. We translate strategic brand principles into impactful cross-channel design systems to be applied across the enterprise, building long-term brand value.

     

    As Senior Manager, Visual Identity Design Strategy, this person will lead key initiatives that advance and refine Amex’s global visual identity system. They’ll collaborate with business units, in-house creative teams, and external agencies to propel brand design excellence and connected expression across channels, products, and experiences.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Lead strategic design initiatives to evolve the Amex visual identity system, ensuring global consistency and flexibility for business needs, from concept through delivery – managing internal and external creative partners to ensure quality, timing, and budget alignment.

    + Partner cross-functionally with brand strategy, insights, and creative teams to translate business goals and research findings into effective and on-brand visual solutions.

    + Ensure integrity and intent of visual identity guidelines is upheld across creative manifestations in close partnership with Brand Management team.

    + Develop and refine brand design principles and guidance that reinforce brand pillars while allowing creative innovation across diverse applications.

    + Shape and review creative briefs that define clear objectives, articulate business and brand challenges, and inspire outstanding design work

    + Advocate for design thinking and champion the role of design as a strategic driver of brand and business impact.

    + Measure and optimize design impact, identifying key performance indicators and opportunities to enhance brand coherence and effectiveness.

    Qualifications

    + 5–7 years of experience in branding, graphic design, design strategy, or similar, preferably in both agency and corporate environments.

    + Strong portfolio/case studies showcasing leadership in developing or evolving comprehensive brand identity systems (logos, color, typography, illustration, design principles, and more).

    + Deep understanding of brand and design systems, from high-level strategy through implementation across digital, print, and environmental touchpoints.

    + Experience managing co-branded or partnership design systems with sensitivity to attribution, hierarchy, and contextual relevance.

    + Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design rationale and strategy to senior stakeholders.

    + Proven ability to lead multiple, complex design initiatives simultaneously across global teams.

    + Proficiency in writing and evaluating creative briefs, SOWs, and managing project resources efficiently.

    + Passion for great design, a strong grasp of emerging creative trends, and a deep appreciation for how visual identity shapes brand experience.

    Qualifications

    Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
