    REYNOLDS AMERICAN has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Employment Law in Winston-Salem, NC.

     

    The Director, Employment Law Partner (In-House Employment & Labor Counsel) is involved in developing strategies, guiding business leaders and implementing personnel policies and practices for Reynolds American Inc. (RAI) and its operating companies. This role reports to the Vice President Employee Relations and Employment Law within the Human Resources Group.

     

    The position provides pragmatic, business-oriented counsel and ensures the company's interests are protected in terms of all matters associated with employees, including internal processes and programs, federal contracts, legal challenges from individuals, groups and governmental administrative agencies. Additionally, this role proactively assists the company to avoid legal and business risks in the handling of workplace safety, immigration, and disciplinary matters; accommodations; performance management; benefit programs; compensation matters; reductions in force, and other employee relations issues.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    + Advising and collaborating with management and HR leaders on employment and labor law compliance, and emerging legal trends.

    + Partnering with HR to design compliant programs that enhance engagement and business success.

    + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal laws (ADA, FMLA, Title VII, USERRA, ADEA, FCRA, FLSA, etc.), including federal contractor obligations.

    + Respond to inquiries and enforcement actions from agencies like the EEOC, DOL, and OFCCP.

    + Provide legal counsel on sensitive employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, and policy reviews.

    + Navigate labor relations issues and multi-jurisdictional compliance challenges.

    + Conduct negotiations with regulatory agencies and third parties.

    + Handle litigation and draft employment agreements and related contract provisions.

     

    What are we looking for?

     

    + At least 6+ years of experience in the area of employment law, with a mix of private practice and in-house experience preferred.

    + College and Law degree (from accredited law school) and state bar license in good standing required.

    + Demonstrated strengths in influencing, negotiating, conflict resolution, oral and written communications, emotional intelligence, problem solving, credibility and decision making.

    + Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven and collaborative environment.
