The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Dermatopathology Histology Technician II who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the Dermatopathology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition, he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the laboratory division for optimal quality, efficiency, productivity and turn-around-times.
Specific Job-Related Duties:
+ Performs highly specialized diagnostic histology, including grossing, routine processing, embedding, sectioning and staining tissue specimens, for microscopic examination by the Dermatopathologist.
+ Prepare solutions, perform special stain techniques, and provide leadership in development of new and modified lab techniques.
+ Performs specialized procedures such as frozen sections, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Determines proper fixative solutions in which tissues are maintained.
+ Serves as the resource for coordination of research projects, test validation, and clinical test implementation activities in the department.
+ Responsible for Quality Metrics to improve the value of patient care.
+ Responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.
The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country. The Department is growing very rapidly and there is great opportunity for advancement in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories.

Hourly range:
The hourly rate range for this position is $37.53 - $49.98. Minimum Education: Related undergraduate study Minimum Experience: 1 year, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Courses in biology and chemistry, histotechnician experience in a clinical laboratory. ASCP certification or eligibility within one year of employment.
