We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead the financial reporting process at GRE, ensuring accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant internal and external financial statements. Apply accounting expertise to analyze financial information, support external audits, and maintain accounting policies and standards. Monitor new accounting pronouncements, conduct technical research, and drive process improvements to implement updated standards. Provide financial analysis to support budgeting, long-range forecasting, margin planning, and other strategic initiatives.
Total Rewards:
A typical starting range for this position is $102,000 - $140,000 + annually. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Lead the preparation and distribution of internal and external financial statements, regulatory reports (e.g., RUS Form 12), and annual reports in accordance with GAAP.
• Analyze accounting transactions, variances, and complex financial issues, providing talking points, highlights, and ad hoc analysis for GRE and finance division needs.
• Maintain and update comprehensive accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with changing accounting standards.
• Coordinate and support the interim and annual external audit, including preparing schedules, addressing GAAP issues, and reviewing audit reports for accuracy.
• Perform monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses for regulatory, lease, asset retirement, and hedging/derivative accounts.
• Assist with budgeting, long-range financial forecasting, margin planning, and patronage capital retirement modeling.
• Participate in other finance-related projects, surveys, compliance reporting, and audits as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 5 or more years of related experience. Strong communication and technical skills are essential. Certified Public Accountant designation preferred. Knowledge of the electric utility industry preferred.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Knowledge of and proven ability to interpret and apply GAAP, using FERC and/or RUS accounting principles as a guide.
• Knowledge of energy market rules and practices and their financial implications.
• Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and financial analysis techniques.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Infor, Itron, and Cognos reporting tools is helpful.
• Skilled in preparing complex spreadsheets, including macros, advanced formulas, calculations, and reports.
• Skilled in using relational databases: creating tables, joins, ad-hoc reports, and data mining functions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research issues and interpret complex information.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation, including memos and Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs).
• Ability to interpret complex contract language and translate it into accurate accounting and reporting processes.
