We provide budget recommendations, forecasting capabilities, and planning insights that enable advertisers to maximize their return on ad spend.

As the leader of this team, you will own the technical vision and product roadmap for budget planning services, working closely with cross-functional partners including Product, UX, Science, and other engineering teams. You'll build and grow a high-performing engineering team while delivering systems that serve a large and growing base of advertisers through both user interfaces and programmatic APIs.

    Key job responsibilities

    Technical Leadership & Vision

    * Own the technical vision and direction for budget planning services, identifying and mitigating risks while constructing project schedules and preparing status reports

    * Drive architecture decisions for systems that integrate with media planning data tables, Ads Planner, and other MADS-PAT systems

    * Ensure high standards for operational excellence, as our products reach hundreds of millions of customers around the world and run 24x7x365

    * Embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques to assess how well system-related services are running

    Team Building & Development

    * Build and grow an engineering team that delivers results, wearing multiple hats from coaching individuals to leading technical discussions, recruiting, and establishing processes

    * Develop more leaders within your group, creating a creative atmosphere that lets engineers innovate while holding them accountable for making smart decisions and delivering results

    * Foster a culture of technical excellence and customer obsession

    Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration

    * Collaborate with Product, UX, and Science partners to ensure we're focused on delivering the right product for customers

    * Work with Finance teams on business metrics and reporting that demonstrate the value of budget planning services

    * Build and maintain effective relationships between engineering and partner disciplines

    API & Integration Development

    * Lead the development of APIs that expose budget recommendations programmatically, enabling integration with Ads Planner and other Amazon advertising tools

    * Ensure APIs meet high standards for reliability, performance, and accuracy

    * Drive adoption of budget planning services through both UI and programmatic channels

    Organizational Leadership

    * Serve as a key leader within Amazon's advertising organization, specifically within the MADS Reach Planning and Measurement team

    * Contribute to the overall growth of our product development organization

    * Share best practices and technical acumen to drive technology decisions across the organization

    A day in the life

As the Software Development Manager for Budget Planning Services, your day might include:

    * Starting with a standup with your team to review progress on the latest budget recommendation algorithm improvements and address any blockers

    * Meeting with Product and partners to review advertiser engagement metrics and discuss priorities for the next quarter

    * Conducting a 1:1 with a senior engineer to discuss their career development and provide guidance on a complex technical challenge

    * Reviewing architecture proposals for a new API endpoint that will enable programmatic access to budget forecasting capabilities

    * Participating in an operational review to analyze system performance metrics and discuss improvements to reduce latency

    * Interviewing a candidate for a software development engineer position on your team

    * Collaborating with the Science team on improving the accuracy of budget recommendation models

    * Ending the day by reviewing code and providing feedback on pull requests from your team

You'll balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership, ensuring your team delivers high-quality software while growing their skills and careers. You'll work in a fast-paced environment where you can see the direct impact of your team's work on advertiser success.
