    Senior Community Services Assistant-Fatherhood

     

    Under the leadership of the Fatherhood Coordinator as a member of the Maternal Child Health multidisciplinary team, work to educate, engage and promote the overall health, wellbeing and positive parenting of Detroit through education, resources and peer support. Create an environment where men can encounter each other in ways that produce personal growth.

     

    Examples of Duties

     

    + Works closely with all internal Staff, community partners, and health systems to develop resources to assist families.

    + Works closely with and maintains a collaborative relationship with maternal child health programs; to engage fathers.

    + Recruit and enroll men for the program.

    + Provide support groups and education sessions. Linking them to resources.

    + Identifies groups who lack services or have social needs for education and referrals.

    + Provides information and support to facilitate health promotion and disease prevention, including conducting community education activities and assisting with group work.

    + Maintains complete and accurate records of activities and services provided.

    + In conjunction with the safe sleep coordinator, provide safe sleep education to fathers

    + Provide weekly dashboard and monthly activities reports and metrics

    + Participate in team reviews, staff meetings and staff training.

    + As always as other duties assigned.

    + Manages a Caseload.

    + Assist with incoming and outgoing resource calls.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, education, psychology, guidance and counseling or related field.

     

    One (1) year of recent experience as a supervisor, preferably in a social, economic or community development program.

     

    Three (3) years of experience in case work, group work, individual and group counseling and guidance, social research or community or public relations.

     

    Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

     

    Reliable transportation

     

    Minimum of one-year work experience in a health or human service setting; Preferred two-three years of experience in human services, case management and/or working with clients to provide education, identify support needs, develop service plans, and problem solving

     

    Experience working with health care systems and community-based organizations

     

    Experience working with multicultural communities

     

    Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

    RETIREMENT BENEFITS

    City Employees Retirement System

    As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

     

    • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

     

    - At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

     

    - At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

     

    • In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

     

    - An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

     

    • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
