    The Department of Health Policy, Management, and Behavior at the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Community Engagement and Recruitment Specialist who will primarily work on research studies focused on HIV/STI prevention and treatment in marginalized communities especially among cisgender Black women in New York.

     

    The Community Engagement and Recruitment Specialist will lead community outreach, and participant recruitment activities to support HIV prevention efforts. Working under the direction of the Program Manager or Principal Investigator, the Specialist will serve as a bridge between the community and program staff, ensuring that strategies are culturally responsive, equitable, and grounded in community trust to ensure timely enrollment and retention of participants in the study.

    Description of Duties:

    Community Partnership and Outreach

     

    + Develop and maintain strong partnerships with community-based organizations, HIV prevention health care facilities/health providers, and the faith-based community.

    + Promote the study at community meetings, health fairs, and local events to increase awareness and engagement.

    + Collaborate with team members to develop culturally appropriate outreach materials, digital campaigns, and recruitment messaging.

    + Facilitate community advisory groups or coalitions to provide input on the recruitment.

     

    Participant Recruitment and Retention

     

    + Implement strategic recruitment efforts targeting identified populations of interest.

    + Conduct direct outreach and screening to enroll eligible participants into the study.

    + Maintain accurate tracking of recruitment progress and ensure participants' confidentiality and data security.

    + Follow up with enrolled participants to encourage ongoing engagement and reduce attrition.

    + Collaborate with staff to identify and address barriers to participation.

     

    Program Support, Reporting, and Evaluation

     

    + Document outreach and engagement activities in a timely and organized manner.

    + Contribute to the development of evaluation reports, presentations, and grant deliverables.

    + Conduct study visits.

    + Participate in regular team meetings to share progress, challenges, and community insights.

     

    Other duties as assigned to accomplish project/workplan activities.

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Bachelor's Degree in public health, communications or related fields.

    + 1 year experience in community outreach and engagement.

    + 1 year experience working on research studies including participant recruitment and data collection (conduct study visits).

    + Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.

    + Experience working with diverse, underserved, or priority populations.

    + Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

    + Familiarity with health promotion, HIV prevention/treatment initiatives preferred.

    + Experience in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft products.

    Preferred Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree in public health or related field.

    + 2-3 year experience in community outreach and engagement.

    + 2-3 year experience working on research studies including participant recruitment and data collection (conduct study visits).

    + Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.

    + 2-3 years experience working with diverse, underserved, or priority populations.

    + Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

    + 1 year experience with health promotion, HIV prevention/treatment initiatives preferred.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft products.

     

    This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

    Additional Information:

    Salary Range: $20,000-$25,000 (DOE)
